Trolley’s High Ridership Remains Steady at Year’s End

Bay Town Trolley Officials report yet another record breaking ridership month

December 15, 2008

Panama City, Fla. – Unlike previous years when Bay Town Trolley officials saw a slight drop in ridership around this time, they’re happy to report November’s ridership is 70 percent above what it was in 2007. With 43,370 rides last month, this year’s year-to-date ridership is at 433,939, reflecting a 25 percent increase above last year. Even as fuel prices continue to drop at a rate faster than they skyrocketed, people are still choosing Bay Town Trolley for their transportation needs.

“Our outstanding ridership is just a testament to how beneficial, economical and convenient riding the trolley is,” said Beth Coulliette, Bay Town Trolley’s executive director. “We thank all of our loyal riders for making this year our best yet, but we’re very excited to unveil new initiatives and enhancements next year.”

The current momentum that the trolley has will roll over into the new year as trolley officials continue to better the system for all of Bay County. Residents can look forward to riding on newer trolleys, increased frequencies and continued quality customer service. With the continuation of the Career Connector and the extended evening service hours, riders will still be able to rely on the trolley to get them to and from work, school, business and leisure activities.

As the holidays draw nearer and the heavy rustle and bustle of Christmas shopping continues, Bay Town Trolley officials are hopeful that ridership will remain steady. They’re even projecting to end the year about 25 percent above 2007’s year end totals.

For the past 12 years Bay Town Trolley has provided public transportation services to Bay County with the mission of moving riders of Bay County with clean, safe, efficient and dependable transportation while enhancing the quality of life and meeting the growing needs of the community.
