10th Annual Harvest Trolley Food Drive Comes To A Close
Trolley Officials Presented Salvation Army with Harvest Trolley Food Donations
November 24, 2008
Panama City, Fla. – Bay Town Trolley officials gathered today in front of the People’s First Bank as the Salvation Army picked up the first few loads of Harvest Trolley Food donations. Bay County Elected Officials were also present as they presented their food boxes from their respective cities.
In addition to the food collected at the different municipalities, students from the Chautauqua Learn and Serve Charter School also presented food donations that they collected over the past month. Bay Town Trolley’s general manager Lee Bragg made his presentation to the Salvation Army with food collected on the trolleys through the “Food for Fare” promotion, where riders were granted free fare in exchange for one canned good or non perishable item.
“Just by the outcome of our “Food for Fare” promotion, I can already tell that this year’s food drive is going to help feed an overwhelming amount of families in Bay County through the Holiday Season,” said Lee Bragg, Bay Town Trolley’s General Manager.
With the current economic situation, this year’s drive is more important than ever as the amount of families in need continues to grow on a daily basis. Salvation Army representatives are hopeful that this year’s drive will feed approximately 1500 Bay County families.
“The trolley’s role in the community goes far beyond public transportations services; it’s our mission to enhance the overall quality of life in Bay County and the Harvest Trolley Food Drive is an example of how we can all rally together to make sure that everyone is able to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner,” said Beth Coulliette.
Even though the Salvation Army made their first pickup today, it’s not too late to participate in the food drive. Several businesses around town still have Harvest Trolley boxes in their establishment and the final pickups will not be completed until November 30, 2008.
For the past 12 years Bay Town Trolley has provided public transportation services to Bay County with the mission of moving riders of Bay County with clean, safe, efficient and dependable transportation while enhancing the quality of life and meeting the growing needs of the community.
