Time For The 10th Annual Harvest Trolley

Bay Town Trolley’s Thanksgiving food drive kicks off November 1, 2008

October 29, 2008

Panama City, Fla. – With the holidays around the corner, Bay Town Trolley is gearing up for its 10th annual countywide Harvest Trolley food drive. Once again the Salvation Army, Chautauqua Learn and Serve Charter School and Bay Town Trolley have teamed up to support families in need living throughout the Bay County area. Non perishable food donations will be accepted from November 1-24, 2008 at drop off locations across Bay County.

To encourage residents and riders to get involved, Bay Town Trolley will accept donations aboard each individual trolley through a “food for fare” promotion where one canned good will equal a free ride. This promotion will run for the duration of the food drive and will end on November 24, 2008.

“Every year it is great to see such an overwhelming amount of support from local residents, businesses, schools and other organizations stepping up to lend a hand,” said Beth Coulliette, Bay Town Trolley’s executive director. “We are sure this season that all of Bay County will carry on their generosity and continue to help others in their community, making the 10th Annual Harvest Trolley a success.”

For the past 10 years Bay Town Trolley partnered with over 100 local businesses and schools to donate over 25,000 pounds of food to the Salvation Army. With the current economic situation that has surfaced, the Salvation Army anticipates being able to provide food for over 1,500 families this year.

“Harvest Trolley is so important because it creates food boxes that we can give away to families in Panama City and Bay County,” said Captain Marion Durham, Commanding Officer for Salvation Army. “All the food stays here in the community and we’re typically able to provide food to the families in need through and beyond the holiday season.”
