Transit Feasibility Study: Public Meeting

Community Survey Results Unveiled as Residents Can Offer Feedback on Preliminary Transportation Service Concepts

January 29, 2008

Milton, Fla. – Over the past six months, as part of a Santa Rosa County transit feasibility study, residents were asked to express their opinions on public transportation through a survey. Well, responses have been submitted and preliminary results are in. Local opinion surrounding public transportation will be revealed at two community meetings set to take place Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. Meeting times and locations are as follows:

Time: 1:30 p.m.
Navarre Community Center
1917 Navarre School Road
Navarre, Florida

Time: 7 p.m.
Oriole Beach Elementary School
1260 Oriole Beach Road
Gulf Breeze, Florida

Residents are advised to participate as all attendees will have an opportunity to provide guidance and feedback on the preliminary Santa Rosa County transportation service concepts.

“Throughout the course of this study, we have strongly encouraged residents to get involved,” said Mary Robinson, senior transportation planner for the Transportation Planning Organization (TPO). “We were pleased to see such a positive response from the community both via online and physical submissions. Ultimately this feedback will help guide the future of public transportation for Santa Rosa County.”

The study, funded by the Florida-Alabama TPO and approved by the local board of county commissioners, will reveal whether there is a need for public transportation in the area and if so, what type of service is best able to meet the demands of the community. The Center for Urban Transportation Research, will present final Santa Rosa County transit recommendations in late February 2008.
